Profile
Consistently growing sales figures are not the only reason that many school leavers seek a career in the tourism industry. The diversity of tasks offered, the lure of working abroad, dealing with people of various cultures, and the many creative opportunities make the world of travel a popular employer. The companies, whether travel agents, airlines or shipping companies, hotels or even restaurants are always looking for new ideas to meet their guests’ wishes—and it is particularly these companies that often have junior employees with outstanding training, practical experience, knowledge of the industry, excellent education in foreign languages, business know-how, and a confident appearance. For example, graduates of hotel management schools or trained travel agents rarely bring along this combination. While they master sub-disciplines, they do not have a generalist-orientated knowledge of an industry in which the awareness of interrelations as well as customers’ wishes is of particular importance.
