The Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health at ATU Sligo is the longest-running program of its kind in Ireland. This accredited program equips students with the knowledge and skills to create safe and healthy work environments. Graduates are prepared to:
- Protect workers from injuries and fatalities
- Prevent illness caused by work activities
- Promote health and wellbeing in the workplace
- Advise employers on health and safety legislation
- Develop and implement safety management systems
The program blends theoretical knowledge with practical application through a variety of learning methods, including:
- Lectures
- Laboratory-based monitoring
- Site visits
- Case studies
- Inquiry-based learning
- Final-year collaborative project with an industry partner
Notes
Tuition Fee – the Department of Education pays tuition fees for all full-time students who are citizens of a Member State of the EU and who meet the residency requirements. Most full-time undergraduate students will be covered by the Free Fees Initiative scheme for their tuition fee. Students from Northern Ireland or Great Britain do not have to pay tuition fees to study in the Republic of Ireland. All students are liable for the Student Contribution fee: €3,000. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus: SAT score of 1000+ (1800 prior to 2016) or ACT composite score of 22 and above or 2-3 Advanced Placement Examinations in relevant subjects with grades 3 and above OR 2-3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects with a minimum score of 600 in each. Vetting Requirement: All places are offered on this programme subject to satisfactory Garda vetting clearance.
