The UCD Theoretical Physics degree emphasizes the mathematical description of physical phenomena, providing a unified picture of the fundamental laws of nature. It’s ideally suited to students who enjoy studying Mathematics and Physics for their Leaving Certificate. Insights from Theoretical Physics are driving our understanding of nature at all scales, from the origin of large-scale structures in the universe to the Planck scale, where our current understanding of space and time breaks down. The degree comprehensively covers Theoretical Physics, while developing your knowledge and expertise in problem-solving, using analytical and computational techniques, which have wide application in, for example, biophysics, econophysics, quantum physics, relativity, and nanoscience.

Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma without standardized exams 4.0 / 4.0 GPA or with standardized exams 3.33 / 4.0 GPA and 1100 SAT or 22 ACT. Additional requirements: Math 600 in math section of SAT or 26 in math ACT or 3 in AP Calc or Stats or C in college/university math class. Lab Science B in senior year HS course or 2 in AP Lab Science subject or C in college/university math class.
