Profile
Geodesy and Geoinformation Science is a diversified engineering discipline strongly relying on mathematics and natural sciences. It covers essential tasks such as acquisition, modelling and processing of spatial data. The analysis, organisation and visualisation of geodata form a fundamental base for the interpretation and design of our environment.Geodesy provides a framework for Geographic Information Systems (GIS). By applying methods and techniques of terrestrial surveying, satellite positioning and adjustment calculation a sound fundament for navigation and routing techniques or location-based services is established. Geoinformation technology deals with consistent management and efficient sharing of data stored in spatial databases. Neighbouring fields like photogrammetry and remote sensing deliver further additional input for sophisticated analyses. Combined with statistical data these disciplines provide powerful tools for detailed 3D/4D models of our real world.
