Hamar
About the City
The Hamar region is one of the most fertile agricultural areas in Norway, so naturally, the region has a rich history. Pop by a farm shop or two among the rolling hills. Many of the farms here can trace their roots back to the Viking age. Visit Domkirkeodden, where Europe’s largest glass building surrounds and protects the 950-year-old Hamardomen, hailed by Travel + Leisure Magazine as one of the most beautiful museums in the world. Or indulge in the art of slow travel on the oldest paddle steamer in the world, the Skibladner. The Hamar region is also full of fun for families. In the beach area of Koigen, right by Hamar city center, you will find both a family-friendly beach as well as a quite spectacular diving tower. If you want more action, you can join a RIB safari, go kayaking, or try out the climbing park. For nature lovers, the forests and low mountains around Hamar can offer almost unlimited hiking opportunities.
