Borås
About the City
Borås is the second largest city in the densely populated Västra Götaland region. 1.5 million people live within a 10-mile radius. With more than 113,000 inhabitants, Borås is the country’s thirteenth largest municipality. In addition to the central town of Borås, there are 20 urban areas in the municipality. The largest are Dalsjöfors, Fristad, Sandared and Viskafors.
The city is nestled in parks and green areas, with nature around the corner. Rya ridges, for example, offer 500 hectares of wild nature and breathtaking views. Around the city, there is a web of open-air courtyards and clubhouses, which are good starting points for excursions to forests, lakes, and open-air areas.
The center of Borås is increasingly alive. Sandwell’s Place and Knalletorget along Viskan are, like Hötorget, places that have recently been rebuilt and become meeting places with outdoor cafes and other things. A new square-like meeting place is also being created between Viskan and the old Central Post Office. Borås has an extensive and exciting cultural life which, in addition to sculptures and street art, also includes a city theater, a symphony orchestra, and a dozen museums.
