Eberswalde
About the City
Eberswalde is a major town and the administrative seat of the district of Barnim in the German Federal State (Bundesland) of Brandenburg, about 50 km northeast of Berlin. It is surrounded by forests and lakes. There are also nature reserves around Eberswalde, although some are off-limits to the public in order to protect endangered species.
Eberswalde Downtown is a mixture of old and contemporary architecture. See the 750-year-old Maria Magdalena Church next to the new and very modern county administration building called “Paul Wunderlich House,” the nicely renovated market square, and the traditional town hall. The town museum is located in one of Eberswalde’s oldest buildings—a half-timbered pharmacy. Here, interesting exhibitions and shows are waiting for visitors.
