Iserlohn
About the City
We invite you to discover our beautiful forest town of Iserlohn with all your senses. You don’t know Iserlohn yet? Then a city tour under the expert guidance of experienced city guides with a view of the city’s history or a walk through the city center with a visit to the Iserlohn city museum or the many art galleries is just the thing.
In addition, the churches offer an admirable backdrop to the city. The city is wonderful to explore with the sound of the carillon. You should definitely plan a visit to the historic Maste-Barendorf factory.
In addition to artist studios, the hairpin factory, the brass foundry, and the only needle museum in Germany to date, there is also a café here. Those who can’t get enough of art objects and exhibitions have additional contact points on site with the local Iserlohner Galleries.
There is also no shortage of art in the city. The many museums in Iserlohn are also exciting excursion destinations for young and old alike—even in bad weather. The Dechenhöhle is one of the largest stalactite caves in Germany, in the Letmathe district of Iserlohn.
In the Museum of Speleology, you will find a replica of the cave bear, which has been extinct for 10,000 years and is unique in Europe. The forest nature trail above the cave provides information about rare plants on limestone. Not only is the Dechenhöhle one of the archaeological monuments in and around Iserlohn, but also in the Burgberg in Oestrich, on the Burgplatz Stünenburg, or in areas like the Rotehausstraße, many sites with treasures from bygone times can also be visited.
