Slovakia was established in 1993 after the communist country, Czechoslovakia, split into two countries. Slovakia is a parliamentary republic that joined the EU in 2004. The country is mountainous, featuring caves and ski resorts.
Currently, the most famous Slovak is three-time world champion road cyclist, Peter Sagan. Slovakia is known for education, with 90% of Slovaks having completed at least a high school education, the highest in the EU.
Health Insurance
All students are required to be covered by a health insurance plan valid for the territory of the Slovak Republic and for the whole period of their stay.
Students from non-EU countries who have not contracted for health insurance before leaving their country are required to obtain health insurance in Slovakia.
Proof of Means Req's
According to the Slovak US embassy site, a letter from a parent or guardian stating that all expenses will be covered for the student meets the proof of means requirement. Otherwise, three months of bank statements are required.
Student Residence
Within 10 working days of entering Slovakia, students are required to register their residence with their local police officer, unless this is reported by their accommodation provider.
