The master’s degree in civil engineering is aimed at developing analytical and problem-solving skills and a solid scientific-technical knowledge, embedded in a general university background.The common core of the programme in civil engineering deals with the essential elements that enable the design, coordination, construction and maintenance of civil engineering structures from the start until the end of lifetime. In doing so, you always take social as well as environmental aspects into account. The master’s programme builds on the basic knowledge from the bachelor’s programme.You have a choice of two options, where you specialise in a specific field of study. Each option has its own distinct profile, which meets specific needs of industry.* As a civil engineer from the option structural engineering, you deal with the structural design, management and renovation of buildings and infrastructure (roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.), considering aspects of safety, structural performance and buildability.* As a civil engineer from the option hydraulic engineering, you build and manage water-related infrastructure (ports, rivers and canals, coastal protection, …) and monitor flood risks, taking into account the environment and the consequences of climate change.In addition, you follow elective courses which deepen and broaden your knowledge. From specialised subjects in construction engineering and subjects from other study programmes to internships and summer courses. You personalise your programme according to your own interests and ambitions.
