Profile
Via lectures, seminars; personal tutoring, group and individual critique; collective and public projects the programme interrogates how artists may produce and practice and how their works may operate in differing public spheres. Study is supported by workspaces, technical support and access to equipment. We expect you to fully engage with the field of art and its debates and to be informed including through alterity. Our vibrant research culture, public programmes, networks and partnerships support a critical artistic and intellectual community. We are committed to you becoming a strong communicator and advocate for art, its potentials and discontents.Valand Academy is a leader in practice-based PhDs for which this programme is preparatory. You will have access to the research culture of Valand. Our Faculty initiated PARSE- Platform for Artistic Research Sweden. We do not believe there is a singular pathway for an artist, rather that artists can contour futures. Alumni have entered the commercial art world and been profiled in Biennial cultures; exhibited in gallery and museum contexts; initiated alternate platforms through self-organisation; developed art in community contexts but also become gallerists, organisers, activists, publishers, writers, researchers, educators, academics, curators, DJs and tattooists.
