Profile
The MA programme Language and Culture is designed to develop students’ competence and practical skills in English language communication in intercultural contexts. Courses incorporate innovative, comparative and interdisciplinary approaches; they cover various fields from English and American studies: linguistics, literary and cultural studies, intercultural communication, film studies, gender studies, popular culture, digital culture and others. The programme prepares students to work with different types of texts and narratives (literary, visual, digital, performative, graphic) as well as multimodal products for the digital and social media. We target Bachelors of Arts in philology, as well as in other fields of knowledge, who have a high competence in English (level C1 of the European Language Framework) and wish to build a career in various social domains requiring expertise in English language and culture such as TEFL, consultancy on language, applied linguistics, journalism, advertising, international relations, publishing, and project development. The three-semester programme is structured in a flexible manner: students can specialise in the linguistics and/or literature and culture modules, and they can choose courses according to their needs and interests. Non-philology graduates are offered an induction semester which will enable them to acquire the basic competences needed for the main course of study. Some courses are available in e-format so that students can organize their own flexible study programme.
