The aim of the master’s program in Philosophy and Economics is to qualify students in the interlinking area of philosophy and economics. In the two-year program, interdisciplinary content and methods are taught jointly by the Institute for Philosophy and the Institute for Economics.Graduates have the necessary scientific knowledge, reflective skills and the ability to argue to contribute a unique interdisciplinary perspective to solve urgent social, economic and political problems in modern societies.The MA Philosophy and Economics is divided into three areas: Philosophy, History and Methodology of Economics; Rationality and decision theory; Ethics, welfare and justice.In all semesters, the course includes interdisciplinary core seminars on selected topics and methods in the interlinking area of philosophy and economics. In addition to the continuous participation in these seminars throughout the course of study, students deepen their basic technical knowledge and skills in philosophy and economics in the first semester. In the second semester, students acquire interdisciplinary core knowledge of the three departments of philosophy and economics.In the third semester, students deal intensively with specific interdisciplinary topics and also examine possible topics for the master’s thesis. Students can also attend elective courses from a wide range of courses at the University of Vienna in philosophy, economics and other disciplines.In the last semester, students undertake an independent interdisciplinary research project as part of their master’s thesis. Students also present their ongoing research in an interdisciplinary research seminar and contribute to the research of other students through comments and discussion contributions.

Admissions Requirements
Bachelor degree in relevant field. Admission to the program requires completion of the following qualitative prerequisite admission requirements in the prerequisite programme: 15 ECTS Credits of philosophy AND 15 ECTS Credits of economic courses. Application deadline is May 3.
