One of the greatest challenges of our time is to find solutions for increased production of healthy food to meet the needs of a growing world population, while reducing the ecological footprint, protecting natural resources and ecosystems and advancing rural development. Are you up for the challenge?The oceans and coastal waters, but also lakes and streams, provide amazing resources that must be managed and taken care of in a sustainable way. The Nordic Master Program in Sustainable Production and Utilization of Marine Bio-resources, offer a deep and coherent integration of biological, environmental, social, legal, and spatial planning aspects of sustainable blue growth. The programme is collaboratively offered by four Nordic Universities: University of Gothenburg, NORD University in Bodø, Holar University College, and University of Akureyri. The universities also collaborates with a leading American marine university, University of New England in Maine, USA.The education aims at developing your knowledge and skills in sustainable production and utilization of marine resources from the oceans. The programme target inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to aquaculture and fisheries as well as their interactions, in a local to global context. It constitutes the entire value chain From Ocean to Table and has a clear focus on entrepreneurship.Program descriptionThe programme will start with one mandatory course of 15 credits, jointly taught by the four Nordic universities. This mandatory introductory course will include three sections where all students gather at three of the Nordic partner universities, one week at each, for an intensive campus course. Thereafter you are free to choose between 70 courses (5-30 credits) offered by the Nordic partner universities as well as by the University of New England, for the rest of the first year. At least 30 credits must be obtained at one of the Nordic universities within the programme, other than the University of Gothenburg.During your second year, you will do your individual research-based degree project. Joint seminar series and shared activities will be offered throughout the program to create group cohesion.
