New conditions of the network society and relational geography have rapidly influenced urban and regional development. The Master’s programme in Urban and Regional Planning offers you a broad training in urban and regional planning, with a focus on strategic planning, climate proof cities, mobility in transformative spaces as well as urban planning and property-led development. During the programme, you will focus on innovative forms of planning aimed at solving problems of collective action in metropolitan areas.The Urban and Regional Planning programme offers you a thorough understanding of advanced theories and methodologies of urban and regional planning, with a focus on urban and metropolitan areas. Core elements are drafting spatial plans, policies and projects (spatial interventions), understanding actor constellations, knowing the institutional conditions of spatial interventions and the international comparison of spatial planning traditions and metropolitan governance.You will also gain knowledge of relevant research methods to undertake planning research and will apply acquired theories, knowledge and research skills in a Master’s thesis. In summary, the programme trains you to analyse (by reflecting on research and by doing research) and act (by critically assessing existing interventions and by drafting new interventions).The University of Amsterdam’s MSc in Urban and Regional Planning sets itself apart as being firmly embedded in the social sciences. A bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Applicants from non-anglophone countries must provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 100 and IELTS 7.0).Admission Deadline: January 11
