The course of education takes eleven semesters and the last one is a probation practice. A State exam is required for obtaining the M.Sc. degree. The graduates receive the qualification “Veterinary surgeon”.The foundations of Veterinary medicine education in Bulgaria were laid down in 1923 when a Faculty of Veterinary medicine was established in SofiaUniversity “St. Kliment Ohridsky”. The current Faculty of Veterinary medicine was established on August 16th 1994. The subject Veterinary medicine in 2008 received a Program accreditation for a period of six years, as a regulated profession.The Faculty of Veterinary medicine today consists of six Departments:- Anatomy, histology and physiology;- Animal breeding science; – Internal diseases and pharmacology; – Obstetrics, gynecology, biotechnology of reproduction, pathological anatomy and biochemistry; – Surgery, anesthesiology, radiology, state veterinary medicine and public health- Infectious pathology, hygiene, technology and control of foodstuffs of animal origin
