Profile
Ireland has developed as a significant global hub for ICT. This is a thriving, exciting sector with a real global perspective. Many of the big names that have significant bases around Dublin are familiar to us – AWS, Google, Microsoft, IBM, LinkedIn, but there is much more strength in depth to this sector in Ireland. Over recent years, the discipline areas of Information Technology, Computing, and Computer Science have expanded in the scope and range of knowledge contained within them. The rise to prominence of big data, social media, mobile technology, and information security, not to mention new cloud-based architectures and infrastructures for delivering information technology has meant increased demand for Software and IT Management graduates with a broader range of specializations and skill sets. This honors degree program gives a great grounding in the essentials of computing leading to rewarding careers. We use a common year 1 where you develop essential skills and get to understand your particular strengths. We then give you a choice of specializing in IT Management or Software Development. Later in the program, additional options in Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning are available.
A Computing core with four specializations, six months of work placement, and a major industry project specialized to your career ambition. Did we mention that TU Dublin Tallaght produced the world champion in Cloud Computing in 2019 and has some of the best professionally certified lecturers with industry experience? Learn from the best! -Professional certifications in Networking and Cloud Computing to a significant level are aligned with this program. -You have the option of spending semester 6 abroad in one of our partner colleges/companies in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Spain, Mexico, and more. A six-month-long internship in Year 3 is part of the program and gives you a real advantage, giving you industry experience and contacts. With around one hundred students placed annually across Computing programs in Tallaght the list of placement companies is long and includes major companies such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft, SAP, Fidelity & Bank of America as well as Tallaght University Hospital, Evros, and many others.
