The BA (Hons) Design for Costume and Performance course at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is designed for students passionate about creating costumes for theatre, film, television, and other performance arts. This course emphasizes practical skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of the historical and contemporary contexts of costume design.
Students will engage in various projects, collaborating with peers in acting, film production, and makeup courses, which simulates real-world industry conditions. The program covers a range of skills including pattern cutting, sewing, fabric manipulation, and textile techniques, alongside design development and research. Emphasis is placed on understanding the needs of performers and the role of costumes in storytelling.
The course also offers opportunities for students to showcase their work through live projects and industry placements, helping them to build a professional network and gain valuable experience.
Graduates of this program are well-equipped to pursue careers in various sectors, including theatre, film, television, opera, dance, and live events. Potential job roles include costume designer, costume maker, wardrobe supervisor, and freelance costume artist.
Notes
For direct admission, prospective applicants are urged to follow a college preparatory programme in high school, taking a senior course in fine or applied art where possible.
All undergraduate courses at AUB offer an optional placement year (€2,230), to be taken between your second and third years of study.
Tuition fee for UK and home students is €11,500.
Application deadline via UCAS is January 29th.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a GPA of 3.0 or above, in-person audition and/or interview plus one of the following:
- Two AP exam results with a grade of 3 or higher
- SAT I (Reasoning) scores of at least 1100
- SAT II subject tests in at least two subjects with minimum scores of 600
- Two or more IB Diploma Programme Courses
- ACT test results in at least two subjects with minimum scores of 24
- Successful completion of an accredited Associate’s Degree
- Successful completion of first year (freshman year) of University at an accredited University
- Successful completion of a recognised Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Studies.
