Profile
The BA (Hons) in Fashion Communication at Arts University Bournemouth is designed for students who are passionate about game-making, creative experimentation, and collaboration. As a student, you’ll join a vibrant community dedicated to creating meaningful art experiences through games. The course emphasizes learning through making, encouraging curiosity, unique ideas, and risk-taking. Fashion Communication students are challenged to view games not only as commercial products but as expressive art forms.
The course begins with a comprehensive exploration of the fundamentals of game design, focusing on the “rules of play.” You’ll acquire key skills in game design, programming tools, and co-creation strategies that lead to engaging game titles. Students will explore game engines, create 2D assets, and gain hands-on experience by participating in mini game jams.
The second year delves into more complex areas such as narrative design, game sound, and 3D asset creation. Students will also explore extended realities (XR) and emerging game-making technologies. Commercial and entrepreneurial thinking is incorporated into the curriculum, providing industry insight and preparing students for future career opportunities.
In the final year, students are encouraged to push boundaries and think innovatively about game design. You’ll create both tangible and serious games, using real-time capabilities of game engines to introduce playful elements into art, design, and performance. The year culminates in a professional games studio, where you’ll develop an original title, gain industry insights, and receive feedback from professional game designers, developers, and producers.
Graduates of the program will be prepared to enter the world of game development with a strong understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of the industry, equipped with a unique portfolio of work that merges artistic expression with interactive media.
