This unique program, offered by Atlantic Technological University at Sligo (ATU Sligo) in collaboration with St. Angela’s College, is the only concurrent initial teacher education program in Ireland for Home Economics and Religious Education. It equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to teach both subjects at all levels in secondary schools (post-primary sector).
Graduates are qualified to teach both Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate Home Economics and Religious Education.
The program provides a comprehensive foundation in both Home Economics and Religious Education.
Students gain practical teaching experience through supervised placements in schools throughout the program.
Graduates meet all the requirements set by the Teaching Council of Ireland to become a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) in both Home Economics and Religious Education.
This program opens doors to a fulfilling career in secondary school education or related fields like home economics and religious education.
Notes
EU Tuition: may be paid by the Irish Government if you qualify for the Free Fees Initiative. All students need to pay a Student Contribution €3,000.Student Contribution may be aided by the Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) grant.Students must satisfy the Garda/police vetting requirements. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus: SAT score of 1000+ (1800 prior to 2016) or ACT composite score of 22 and above or 2-3 Advanced Placement Examinations in relevant subjects with grades 3 and above OR 2-3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects with a minimum score of 600 in each.
