The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering at ATU Galway equips students with the skills and knowledge to design, develop, and maintain mechanical systems. Throughout the program, you’ll gain a strong foundation in engineering principles, including:
- Mechanics
- Thermodynamics
- Materials Science
- Mathematics
- Physics
In the final year, you can choose to specialize in one of three areas:
- Biomedical Engineering: Apply engineering principles to design medical devices and implants.
- Product Design: Focus on the creative and technical aspects of product development.
- Energy Systems: Specialize in designing and optimizing sustainable energy systems.
Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering program at ATU Galway can pursue careers in various fields, including:

Notes
Tuition Fee – the Department of Education pays tuition fees for all full-time students who are citizens of a Member State of the EU and who meet the residency requirements. Most full-time undergraduate students will be covered by the Free Fees Initiative scheme for their tuition fee. Students from Northern Ireland or Great Britain do not have to pay tuition fees to study in the Republic of Ireland. All students are liable for the Student Contribution fee: €3,000. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus: SAT score of 1000+ (1800 prior to 2016) or ACT composite score of 22 and above or 2-3 Advanced Placement Examinations in relevant subjects with grades 3 and above OR 2-3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects with a minimum score of 600 in each.
