The BA (Hons) Photography course at Arts University Bournemouth focuses on developing both your technical skills and creative vision, preparing you for the rapidly evolving world of photography. Through a blend of practical workshops and theoretical learning, you’ll explore various genres, including portrait, documentary, fashion, and commercial photography. The course is structured to give you increasing freedom and responsibility, helping you shape your own identity as a creative practitioner.
You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including seven photography studios, digital SLR cameras, and 3D workshops for more experimental work. The course offers opportunities for independent learning, supported by tutorials and feedback from experienced professionals. By the end of your studies, you will have developed a professional portfolio and the skills necessary to pursue a career in photography or related fields.
With a mix of practical assignments, lectures, seminars, and group critiques, the course emphasizes the importance of developing adaptable skills for the creative industry. You’ll be encouraged to experiment, think critically, and produce work that reflects both personal expression and professional standards. The course also offers an optional placement year for those who wish to gain additional industry experience.
Notes
For direct admission, prospective applicants are urged to follow a college preparatory programme in high school, taking a senior course in fine or applied art where possible.
All undergraduate courses at AUB offer an optional placement year (€2,230), to be taken between your second and third years of study.
Tuition fee for UK and home students is €11,500.
Application deadline via UCAS is January 29th.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a GPA of 3.0 or above, portfolio, in-person audition and/or interview plus one of the following:
- Two AP exam results with a grade of 3 or higher
- SAT I (Reasoning) scores of at least 1100
- SAT II subject tests in at least two subjects with minimum scores of 600
- Two or more IB Diploma Programme Courses
- ACT test results in at least two subjects with minimum scores of 24
- Successful completion of an accredited Associate’s Degree
- Successful completion of first year (freshman year) of University at an accredited University
- Successful completion of a recognised Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Studies.
